The third annual ‘Fair Day’ will be held in Castleblayney on September 26th 2015. What started off as a one off recreation of a traditional Fair Day has now become one of the highlights in the town’s calendar. These Fair Days were held in this small provincial market town up until the 1940’s.

On the day be carried back in time as the country folk travel to the town to sell their goods, to buy their supplies for the week and to meet their neighbours and socialise. The townsfolk greet one and all as they take in the sights, sounds and smells of a traditional ‘Fair Day’ of long ago.

Join with everyone to enjoy the variety of old tractors and farm machinery on display, the array of local crafts being demonstrated and enjoy the music, dancing and drama on offer from Castleblayney Players and a host of local talent. There will be old time ‘fairground’ rides in the town on the day to light up your eyes and your heart. Join us on the carousel and helter-skelter, whether you’re five or eighty-five.

Get into the spirit by dressing up in period clothing and be part of a day not to be missed. You’ll be glad you made the effort. This is a free event but donations towards the costs are welcome.

On Friday the 25th of August join a host of local talent in the Iontas Theatre Castleblayney to hear a presentation of local history, see old cine-camera clips from days gone by and enjoy the entertainment from a selection of talented locals of all ages. This is a free event, but donations on the night are welcome.
